Background

The Arc approached us to design a WordPress template that could be housed on WordPress multisite and utilized for up to 700 state and local chapters.

The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Given the scope of their amazing work, the solution needed to be robust and extensible.

Goals

In designing a template for The Arc, we worked closely with their national marketing team and digital director to identify major goals of the project:

• Craft a design that unifies the brand
• Create a design that’s accessible for several distinct audiences
• Develop a customizable framework for local flexibility
• Develop a sound WordPress Multisite home for all of the above

Strategic Design

To create a template that would be accessible to several distinct audiences, we crafted audience-based landing pages. Each of these pages targeted a different profile (5 total) without breaking away from overall branding and appearance. We adjusted our tone of each landing page by shifting the layout, imagery, and use of branding colors to cater to different profiles.

Overall Result

The final, robust template included many features such as customizable calls to action, two content sharing frameworks, an events calendar, photo galleries and social sharing. All of which were strategically implemented to help local chapters better serve The Arc’s mission in the community. We further supported their team by implementing a custom multisite setup and custom hosting environment, specifically tailored for their growing needs and usage.
