This past weekend, I had the great privilege to speak to a group of incredible creators/designers/makers at WordCamp Ann Arbor (#WCA2). We packed out a small room at the University of Michigan and I spoke to them all about how to become a better designer through the art of stealing.

I'm am so thrilled that I am going to be speaking Saturday Aug 16th at WordCamp Birmingham! This year, the incredible Andrew Searles has headed up as lead organizer with an incredible team of co-organizers and volunteers. What they are bringing to our community this weekend is going to be FABULOUS and I can't thank them enough for their hard work. The past two years, I had the great pleasure of co-organizing the camp but was unable to speak because of organizer duties. The last time that I spoke at WordCamp Birmingham was in 2010 on “Beyond the System Font – Advanced Web Typography.” I am so thrilled to be speaking again and can't wait! This year my topic will be: "Typography & User Experience."
Type on the web has many roles: it is an interface, a brand, sets tone, and directs the user. Typography has many roles and can either add or take away from User Experience. In this beautiful and exciting talk we’re going to look at various ways type is used, implemented, and dissect the role that it plays in user experience on the web.

I was so thrilled to be able to speak at WordCamp Atlanta March 14-15, 2014. I not only gave a talk on Smart Design, but also to the Kids Program on ”Design Basics: CSS, Typography, & Theming”, as well as guest starred on “Cain & Obenland In The Morning.” WCATL was such a fun camp, and I am looking forward to WordCamp Chicago June 13-15!

Fast, simple, SMART. Mobile devices have forever changed the way we interact with content. Now we have to consider many things such as HiDPI graphics, responsive design, speed, UI/UX patterns, touch target sizes, gestures, and more. All while not losing track of what’s important: Content.
We’re going to discuss the influence of mobile on design trends and learn implementation techniques of smart design such as icon fonts, svg, and other helpful tips.

I'm thrilled to be giving my third talk at WordCamp Phoenix! I've grown to love Chandler and WCPHX over the years and all the amazing talented speakers. My talk is titled:
"Designer vs Developer - Creators in WordPress"
This talk will explore myths & preconceptions about roles.. When we push these boundaries, we can achieve greater things. If you understand what you're trying to accomplish both technically and visually, you will have fantastic a outcome.
We'll touch on "crossover"(golden unicorn) topics such as UI, UX, trusting instincts, user testing, wire framing, information architecture, front end structure, and form.
WordPress is a great place to put this into practice: as its a perfect environment for leaning php,css, but also its surrounding community support helps us achieve greatness.
